Tough Crowd!

Posted on November 17, 2008
Well that joke went over like a lead balloon. Did I do too good a job or was it just not funny? Boy?s ?musician-routine? text made me laugh when I received it. (Yes, it was also a little disappointing.) I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I?d ever read?and here I was sitting at home all mopey and stuff...

This is a test...

Posted on November 16, 2008
to see if my feed is broken because my last post didn't show up in bloglines. This is only a test. Carry on.

It can't last...

Posted on November 15, 2008
I had a party to attend tonight. It was the housewarming party for a classmate from law school. Several weeks ago I?d RSVP?d as +1. I never do that. Even when I?m dating someone, I don?t want to be presumptuous. But Boy and I did everything together, and when I sent in my response, I didn?t even give it a thought...

This past week...

Posted on November 08, 2008
I didn't write this week because I was a bundle of nerves. The election had my stomach in knots, bar results loomed on the horizon, and last weekend, Boy and I got into a fight. And in the end... Obama won the election. YES WE CAN! I passed the bar...

Have I mentioned before that I have a blond-haired, blue-eyed, almost completely of German descent mother? No? Well, here she is. (That's not a wig, people.) Have I also mentioned that I was born with jet black hair, a streak of which ran down my entire back? ?Sorry, no pictures of that...

Hurricane "Relief"...

Posted on November 01, 2008
Dear Sprint, I got your bill today. Inside was a nice little note to let me know that you'd waived any late, overage, roaming and call forwarding charges from 9/12/08 to 10/11/08 as a result of the fact that I'd been living in a disaster area. Insofar as my phone didn't work for several days after the hurricane, I'm not sure how I could have racked up overage charges...

Martha says "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"

Posted on October 31, 2008
Gosh, the first time I typed the title I mis-wrote it as Happy Halloweed. That would have been funny. Sorry for being late in getting this up. I know, I'm a bad a owner. Here's my little ladybug. And here's a costume that was anonymously sent to Martha in the mail...

Me and Alice in Wonderland...

Posted on October 30, 2008
A week or so before I met Boy, Wine-Time-Girl and I were wandering around Sephora. It?s kind of a weekend pastime for us. After Sunday Brunch, we head over to Sephora, and WTG buys everything in sight while I dab different products on my wrist and make personal bets with myself as to which brand will be the first to create a drastic rash...

You have to...

Posted on October 24, 2008
I voted today. I voted despite the fact that my vote is essentially worthless in the State of Texas. I've lived in Texas since '93, and I've consistently voted in every election except 2006. (Personal protest.) What I'm trying to say is, if I'm willing to fight for a parking space and stand in line for twenty minutes for a vote that is meaningless year after year, then by golly, the rest of

Can You Read Me Now?

Posted on October 20, 2008
A week or so ago, someone commented that they?d been having difficulty accessing the site. I pulled it up and?no problems, so I figured it wasn?t an issue. Today a not-so-anonymous commenter anonymously posted that the problem was that the site would not load in Internet Explorer...

Am I a Jackie or a Marilyn?

I am proud to say I'm neither... Hat tip to E. McPan You Are a Bette! You are a Bette -- "I must be strong" Bettes are direct, self-reliant, self-confident, and protective. How to Get Along with Me Stand up for yourself... and me.Be confident, strong, and direct...

And this too shall pass...

Posted on October 18, 2008
Law school teaches us to focus on the details: filing deadlines, differing facts, the interpretation of one word? I still remember receiving the review of my first legal memo. In the analysis arena, I got all of the possible points; in the grammar/punctuation portion, none...

Gasp!

Posted on October 17, 2008
Ohmigosh, I almost forgot! I got a letter in the mail today from my law school, and I opened it suspiciously because I assumed they wanted money, or I owed a fine, or I forgot to fill out a form and technically didn't graduate. No, no, no! It was my official class rank, and I'm proud to say, that I was in the top half of my class...

Growing Pains...

Posted on October 16, 2008
Augh! I have so much to say, but can?t seem to find the time to do it these days. For example, yesterday, I had jury duty. Ha! The one time in my life that I?m barely getting by on a measly hourly wage, and I have to forgo eight hours of earning for traffic court...

Hey, it made me laugh...

What a crazy day!

Posted on October 16, 2008
Ok, so first off, I started my new job yesterday. Oh, don?t freak out; it?s only one day a week, BUT it?s my first REAL law job. (Currently, I?m semi-paying my bills through an editorial assistant job.) So, I walk into work, and my new boss-slash-mentor-slash-crazy-Rosemont-solo-practitioner whirls me around and we?re out the door?to buy furniture...

Nothing in Particular...

Posted on October 13, 2008
I?m feeling chatty. Problem is, I don?t have any thing particular on my mind this evening. Hrm, well, I am super crazy happy because Boy flaked on dinner plans for this evening. I know. You?re wondering why I would be happy about that, right? Well, it?s because I am finally starting to ?get? Boy and the way he operates...

Perception is everything...

Posted on October 10, 2008
There are many things I like about structure and routine. I am definitely more productive when I have them. I feel better when I?m productive. Structure and routine are good. Except... there are some structural/routine things that I just don?t/can?t/won?t buy into and one of them is the Monday-Friday, 8-5, 40-hour work week...

What are you, my mother?

Posted on October 08, 2008
Does anyone else hate it when you?re trying to find a statute on Westlaw, and you?re not sure what the magic abbreviation is, so you give it your best guess and Westlaw recognizes what you?re looking for, but brings up a screen that says: The proper citation format for blah-di-dah is? And then it makes you type it in all over again?which is dumb because clearly, the program recognized what

What I'm like in the Morning...

Posted on October 07, 2008
I am never up before 8 am, but for the last several mornings I've briefly woken up between 5-6 am. Today, I decided to go ahead and get up, and now I remember all of the things I hate about getting up early. (Early for me, I mean.) Why does it wait so late to get light outside? I jumped out of bed and was like, "Whoo-hoo...

You know you want one...

Posted on October 07, 2008
There?s a large bottle of Pellegrino sitting on my desk at work. Wine-Time-Girl walked by, picked it up, and said, ?I?m jealous.? ?You want me to bring you a bottle?? I asked. ?No, it?s alright,? she said. ?No really,? I told her, ?I have a ton. Fairy-God-Brother gives them to me by the case...

Wherein Ana fakes a meme...

Posted on October 06, 2008
Politely Obscene tagged me for a meme-type-thing, and since I don?t want her to think I?m haughty and ignoring her or otherwise excluding her from the law student/hopeful attorney blogosphere, I?m kinda sorta responding with a post. I?m supposed to give you guys five non-law blogs and five law blogs that I read, and then the five law bloggers are supposed to do their own meme...

Yay for Normal!

Posted on October 05, 2008
I can hardly believe it, but things might actually be back to normal. Finally! After my most recent post where I whined and semi-chronicled health issues, I was taken down for the count by yet another health joy. Last weekend, Boy and I drove to Austin for the Austin City Limits Festival...

Tough Love...

Posted on October 01, 2008
I had a hard day today. Perhaps I will write about it in the future, but suffice to say, I have an embarrassing 'illness' that requires surgery. So I called my mom, which is a stupid idea because while most moms are considered to be nurturing types, my mom is not...

If you write it, they will come...

Posted on September 25, 2008
Ok, it's not the best I've got, BUT hey, we've had a hurricane, Boy wants to drag me out late at night, I'm employed, but not making any money. Here's my attempt to get back in the groove. I haven't forgotten you guys (although I'm afraid to check my stats given my lack of posting)...

Things that hack me off...

Posted on September 24, 2008
On the Ike Page at the Houston Chronicle there's a series of photographs documenting the storm and its aftermath day-by-day. Flipping through them I came across a picture of a husband and wife, cleaning out their house which was devastated by the storm...

College Football Makes Everything Better...

Posted on September 20, 2008
As of yesterday, half of the city has power. This percentage for me has stirred a mental shift into thinking that we're on the downhill slide of this thing. Most of my friends now have power, but Boy is still without. My first day at work was worthless; the second, an improvement...

Darn it...

Posted on September 18, 2008
So Boy and I both returned to our respective jobs today. Though more than half of the city is still without power, there was something calming about returning to a sense of routine. We sat out the hurricane at his house, but since my electricity is up and running, he's been squatting at my place...

Still kicking...

Posted on September 16, 2008
Hey y'all. I'm alive. Completely stressed out, totally tired, wanting to cry, but I'm okay. My house is safe, no flooding or roof damage, and unlike 70% of the inner city (aka 1.5 Million people), I actually have electricity now. There are trees and roofs and standing water strewn everywhere about the city...

Reasons to love this state...

Posted on September 11, 2008
Of course by now all that's on the television is storm coverage, and I'm watching with a train wreck intensity. A small nugget of awesomeness: Newscast Dude (in response to the smooth evacuation of Galveston): You know Galveston has got this down...
