This town is a shitstorm...

Posted on September 11, 2008
I woke up this morning to the sound of my mayor on the alarm radio telling certain portions of the city that they were under mandatory evacuation instructions while the rest of us were advised to 'hunker down.' (Wait a sec? Some of us were not just advised, but ordered to leave, and the rest of us are completely safe and should stay put? Something tells me this is a step-by-step process for

Hola. I?m not feeling especially

Posted on September 07, 2008
Hola. I?m not feeling especially witty or in the mood to write right now, but I realized that it?s been a week or so, and I felt that you guys deserved an update. The reason why I haven?t been writing lately is because a) I?ve been extremely tired from being overly social and b) I?ve been walking around slightly dazed with a stupid grin on my face...

Peace...

Posted on August 29, 2008
I love that it?s over, not just the bar, but law school in general. Despite working around 40 hours a week, I feel like I have an abundance of free time. Why? Because it?s really free. When I?m hanging out with my friends, I?m not worrying that I should be studying or reading or reviewing journal junk...

The "Oh crap" files...

Posted on August 26, 2008
At dinner tonight with friends my phone rang. I dug through my purse and found the phone just as the call was going to voice mail. The number was not one from my phone book, but the area code indicated the call was local. I placed the phone on the table and a few minutes later the voice mail alert rang...

What goes around...

Do you have things in life that you regret? I do. I try not to regret things, but sometimes it just happens. You wish you could do things over, and you daydream about what you would do differently, all the things you know now that you didn?t know then...

And I just thought the beer goggles made the boys more attractive...

A few days ago my friend Alex proposed a challenge. A challenge! Oh goodie, something to keep my mind away from the fact that I might be losing my house, have not yet found a permanent job, and am stuck in an unwelcome celibate rut. Yes, yes! What is the challenge? Detox...

Facebook has officially peaked...

Posted on August 18, 2008
Why do I think this? People I knew in high school and college are starting to join. First, let?s get past the fact that I barely remember any of them and am quite confused that they recognize me. Fifteen years ago I grabbed my high school diploma and fled the great state of God, grits, and social conservatism, never to return...

Everything's better in the light of day...

Posted on August 17, 2008
I?m not sure why, but sometimes just expressing your fears makes things better. The ability to actually articulate what?s bothering you gives you the chance to analyze the situation and come up with solutions. Waiting around for the job is a risk. At the same time, many employers don?t hire until after bar results come back...

Way too much time on my hands...AKA Make your own Mustache Necklace...

Posted on August 07, 2008
Um, so work called me yesterday to tell me that I can?t come in until Monday because, well, a summer intern is currently using my desk. I?m way up there on the totem pole, what can I say? So, what to do with my remaining summer days? Sit at my desk, lost in thought, drowning in a pool of narcissism? Sounds like fun, but perhaps not the healthiest option...

Anyone?

Posted on August 05, 2008
Has anyone noticed that in the last twelve months the mustache has started to make a serious comeback? Does anyone else feel kind of creeped out to realize that they are turned on by mustaches?

Oh, that was nice...

Remember how I got involved in a hit and run on my way to Barbri last June? Remember how I waited for an hour and the cops never showed up? Remember how I went to the police station, waited forever, and the cops made me pick one of the two license plate numbers that I thought was the car? Turns out, it was all worth it...

I think the post-bar funk is dissipating.

Posted on August 05, 2008
I think the post-bar funk is dissipating. Still missing Austin, but I'm telling myself it's a phase. Tomorrow I'll start back at my old part-time job and continue to work there until I get the details worked out on my post-law school job (otherwise known as the job where I attempt to practice law)...

What now?

Posted on August 02, 2008
Odd. For the last two days, I have not woken up with the idea that I need to study. I have not sat here thinking that my life is without purpose now that the bar exam is over. At the same time, I have been uneasy. Partially because there is that unknown ? did I actually pass the darn thing? Mostly though, the anxiety stems from the thought, ?What do I want to do now?? Somewhere in there is

I'm Free!

Ouch!

I think I bombed the MBE, like BOMBED. The second half of the day was fine, but during the first half my brain just refused to turn on. I couldn't think the questions through, and just sat there screaming things like, "OMG, I'm an idiot. This looks like a hearsay question, but all the answers are related to impeachment!" only to walk outside after it was over, take a breath, and realize, "Yes

Three Day Test...

Posted on July 29, 2008
I've never had a three day exam before. Finished the first day, and though I know there are two more days, I kinda keep forgetting that there are in fact two more days. I should probably start reviewing at some point...or at the very least, stop downing wine and watching Almost Famous over and over again...

No clue...

Posted on July 27, 2008
I took today ?off? for the most part. Perhaps if I just stepped away from it, I wouldn?t feel so tired or resentful. I still have no idea if I will pass or not, but I don?t think the world will stop turning if I don?t. Yes, it will be a horrendous pain to study for this all over again, and somewhat, it will be slightly embarrassing when the names are publicly announced...

A Wall Has Been Hit...

Posted on July 26, 2008
I thought for sure I'd wake up this morning in panic mode with only three days left to go. Sadly, no. I just can't seem to look at this stuff anymore. It's all review, and I can't recall half of it on demand, but I'M SO SICK OF SITTING AT MY DESK AND MEMORIZING ELEMENTS, SOL'S, AND EVERYTHING ELSE...

I am such a dork...

Posted on July 25, 2008
So I'm listening to my Led Zeppelin, right? And instead of just letting the music play in the background, I put my headphones on - so I can clearly hear the lyrics. And do you know what? There are Lord of the Rings references in these songs! (I'm sure this is common knowledge, but I've never paid attention before...

Today's Lesson Plan...

Posted on July 25, 2008
If you're following the Ana crash course of bar study, here's what you should be doing today. Download the entire album Mothership by Led Zeppelin from itunes because you realize that you're slowly buying the songs individually, and itunes says they'll cut you a discount...

I got a Pony!!!

Posted on July 24, 2008
Yesterday my mother sent me a little pep email in regards to the bar and studying. I wrote back that I was beyond the point of fear and had moved on to harboring a strong disdain for the bar examiners. Then, as example, I listed a small portion of the baloney that I?d committed to memory that day...

MBE Practice Questions...

Posted on July 24, 2008
The barbri ones are just the best, huh? Do you ever get totally out of left fields ones? Jim slaps Betty, but she is not seriously injured. If Jim is convicted of homicide, it will most likely be because... When you come across these, does anyone else take their pencil, black out of all the answer choices, and then scrawl onto the page, "It doesn't matter because I can guarantee you that

Final Countdown...

Posted on July 22, 2008
I?m soooo tired. Whine. The good news ? today is the last horrible day of studying. What does that mean? Well, for the last week or so, I?ve been reading and re-reading with a fine tooth comb, either my notes from barbri class or the outlines in my mini-conviser, stopping every ten minutes to recite the elements of Holders in Due Course or the elements of a will or ceremonial marriage or the

Insomnia...

Posted on July 21, 2008
I realized a few days ago that I was regularly going to bed around the time I would be waking up to take the bar exam. Terrified that I would sleep through the exam, I made some adjustments. Here they are for anyone who's having difficulty sleeping right now...

Secured transactions, anyone?

Posted on July 21, 2008
Okay, so at first I was like what's the big deal? You've got to distinguish between the security agreement, the filing, and the perfection, right? Piece of cake. Except! Holy exception to the exception to the exception batman! With all this goop, I'm surprised there isn't some kind of special rule for the purchase of Blue Bears Biking Backwards (when the purchase of the bears was made with a

The essays are not going so well...

Essay Question: Can Mutt and Jeff fix their title problem? Ana writes: Of course Mutt and Jeff can fix their title issue. They might be idiots, but that shouldn't preclude them from solving their problem. This is not what they intended and to enforce such would be a ridiculous use of following the law to the exact letter...

Model Answer? I think not...

Posted on July 17, 2008
In the old exam booklet that barbri hands out they also provide model answers. Some of them are just awesome. Others are baloney. What do I mean? Well, right now, I?m reviewing the Consumer Law answers and they amount to what would be about three-four typed pages single-spaced...

Convention is overrated...

Guy 1: Your shoes are so awesome. ? Guy 2: OMG, I love your shoes! ? Guy 3: I have to buy you a drink; those shoes are just too fabulous. And so on? My mother after hearing me recount the story a few days later: Why is it that I have NO problem picturing you in a gay bar, camping it up in ruby red slippers, and receiving drinks from homosexuals? When I think about it, you must have been so
