: Legal Pad | LAOne kickback scheme, five lawsuits
By Richard Binder
No fewer than five lawsuits have been filed related to the arrest of Ausaf "Omar'' Siddiqui, a former executive at Fry's Electronics. Siddiqui was charged for allegedly masterminding a multimillion dollar kickback scheme to fuel his gambling habit. Siddiqui was arrested in December 2008.Two of the suits pit the San Jose-based Fry's Electronics against its former vice president of merchandising, a 43-year-old Palo Alto bachelor who came to the company in 1988 and allegedly owes the company millions of dollars. Three of the suits were filed by Fry's vendors, who claim that the company headquartered on Brokaw Road isn't paying them for the equipment and gadgets they negotiated through Siddiqui. The five lawsuits, four of which were filed in Santa Clara County, are likely to be consolidated with one judge.
