Roland S. Martin: Michigan and Florida don't deserve revotes

Posted on March 16, 2008
I was glad to see this commentary by Glenn Beck on CNN.com:"But folks, I'm sorry. Knowing full well how the two political hacks -- also called governors of Michigan and Florida -- deliberately chose to ignore the Democratic Party rules and try to leapfrog the other states, I just don't have any compassion for them...

If you're going to screw the middle class, we're taking you down with us!!

Posted on March 12, 2008
By way of the mortgage crisis, predatory lending and banking, the ever-widening gap between the rich and the poor, etc. I guess it really is true. No man (or woman) is an island. See why we all need to look out for each other? Check out this interesting analysis...

Kamikaze pigeon and My Cousin Vinny

Posted on March 11, 2008
As I got off the subway yesterday on my way to class, I almost butted heads with a kamikaze pigeon that was flying at warp speed about 4 inches above my head. In an underground T stop. Then as I was driving home, I saw the best license plate I've seen in a while...

How to win at office politics?

Posted on March 10, 2008
Personally, I hate office politics. I suck at it partly because I believe in calling a spade a spade, but mostly because as far as I'm concerned, no problem will ever get solved if it's ignored. Too many people in the office ignore the elephant in the room...

Woo hoo! Have I arrived?

Posted on March 06, 2008
I got a mention in the Blawg blog!

Anyone out there good at reading body language?

Posted on March 03, 2008
'Cause I know what I think when I look at this picture. What do YOU think? What is the relationship between these two people? Do they know each other, are they in love with each other, are they family, or were they simply strangers who modeled for the shoot?

The power of music

Posted on February 29, 2008
I was driving to work today thinking about The Ex.I was thinking of what I wish I had said. "Does she know about that night down by the river? Does she know that you need to date someone you feel superior to? Does she know that you--"Then I heard the intro to "Blister in the Sun", THE song that reminds me of college...

Prof. Glannon rocks

Posted on February 27, 2008
From an email we received this week (letting us know what our assignments are for class) after having class cancelled this past Friday due to snow:"Dear Torts Scholars,I'm sure you were glad to have a Friday night off, but I missed you. So many torts, so little time...

Why is a nice girl like you going to become a lawyer?

Posted on February 26, 2008
Ok, so they don't come right out and say it. But that's the reaction I get from a lot of strangers (including potential dating interests) when I tell them I'm going to law school. How do you guys deal with that reaction? At least it helps weed out who I do and do not want to hang out with.

Love life update

Posted on February 25, 2008
Thanks to everyone who commented on my last post! So, I figured I'd given an update. The bouncer wants to take me out to dinner, which is cool. The guy I really liked, on the other hand... He wrote back to say "what are you doing tomorrow night". I texted him back, but haven't heard from him since...

When it rains, it pours

Posted on February 21, 2008
It's been a while since I posted anything about my love life. Or lack thereof. Probably 'cause there hasn't been much to say! But all that has changed for the moment! I resorted to trying the internet. Yes, I admit it. And so far I've met two guys, one I'll never see again (he was pretty socially awkward) and one who is kind of cool, but after getting together a few times I'm still not feeling it...

A Guide to Writing a Law School Blog

Posted on February 19, 2008
Courtesy of Three Years of Hell.Hey, I'm home sick today and wanted some advice on my blog. Well... not on MY blog, but on blogging in general. Ok, I wanted to know how to get more attention. So sue me. ;)But while you're reading this, can anyone explain to me what tracking back is, exactly?

Which rule of civil procedure are you?

Posted on February 18, 2008
Which Federal Rule of Civil Procedure Are You? YOU ARE RULE 20(a)!You are Rule 20, an important part of the Federal Rules' policy of permissive joinder. You are designed specifically to allow as many parties in an action as can be tried efficiently, and you'll include someone as long as there is some factual overlap between a claim involving them and the rest of the case at hand...

Edward R. Murrow: My Hero

Posted on February 18, 2008
From PBS:Throughout the 1940s and 1950s America was overwhelmed with concerns about the threat of communism growing in Eastern Europe and China. Capitalizing on those concerns, a young Senator named Joseph McCarthy made a public accusation that more than two hundred "card-carrying" communists had infiltrated the United States government...

Ok, I'm honored

Posted on February 17, 2008
After bombing terribly in LPS on Friday, I went to The Imbroglio's blog today and saw that he put a link to my blog on his page!!! Now I'm listed on two of my favorite bloggers' pages (the other is Law v Life). After a weekend of trying to remind myself that my disaster on Friday is not the end of my law school career, that seriously made me feel better...

"Under God"

Posted on February 17, 2008
Check this out. Did you know that "under God" wasn't originally part of the Pledge of Allegiance? It was added during the Red Scare in 1954, when the country was in the grips of McCarthyism.Interesting what orchestrated fear can achieve that reason and logic can't...

Lyrics that illustrate how I felt after bombing my practice oral argument in LPS tonight.

Posted on February 16, 2008
"Teach me! I know I'm not a hopeless case...""I don't know which side I'm on. I don't know my right from left, or my right from wrong".I'll explain later. For now, I'll just say that this is the first time I'm truly questioning whether I can do this whole lawyer thing or not...

Enjoy your V.D.!

Posted on February 14, 2008
Valentine's Day, obviously. :)

PS: I think I failed my LPS assignment

Posted on February 11, 2008
My water heater decided to go bust not just on the Wednesday before our assignment was due, causing me to miss class that day AND not get any work done on my argument, but it stopped giving heat on Thursday. Long story short, I ended up being forced to call the plumber...

I gotta research this one

Woman Takes Plea Deal in Lousy Lawn CaseFeb 9, 7:28 AM (ET)(AP) Betty Perry, left, and her attorney Gloria Allred walk into Utah's Fourth District Court to appear...OREM, Utah (AP) - When 70-year-old Betty Perry was accused of neglecting her lawn, she became defiant...

Big week for LPS this week...

Posted on February 06, 2008
We have a big assignment due on Friday. So of course I'm here writing about it instead of writing it. Oh well. Just wanted to have at least one law school-related post this month. :)

"I don't want to talk about it."

Posted on February 04, 2008
That's what everyone said after the game. The Pats blew it. They lost. They choked. They had it coming. Whatever. It sucks. I'm changing my Meez out of her football outfit now.

"The biggest choke in all of New England sports history"...

Posted on February 04, 2008
according to Boston.com writer Eric Wilbur. Some excerpts:"Whether this was the most heartbreaking loss in Boston history boils down to a matter of personal opinion of cowhide over pigskin, or vice versa."Whether it was the worst loss is certainly up for debate...

Ok, that's just gross...

Posted on February 02, 2008
Apparently double dipping into salsa, etc., is like kissing everyone at the party. At least, it is according to this study.

Chivalry on the subway is dead

Posted on February 02, 2008
That's what I was thinking as I was standing at the T stop tonight after class, waiting for the train to open its doors and let us get on. It doesn't matter whether you're an old woman or a young girl. Men of all ages will still pratically push you aside in order to get on the train first...

What is with jewelry saleswomen?

Posted on February 02, 2008
For some reason, I've never had this problem with jewelry salesmen.I was looking at some (cheap) sapphire rings today at a jewelry store in the mall. I mentioned that I actually like the darker sapphires even though I'd heard that the lighter the color the more valuable the sapphire...

"We're no Ivy Leaguers. We're scrappy"

Posted on January 29, 2008
That's what Andrew C. Meyer, a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and one of the best lawyers in the country, had to say about being a Suffolk Law grad.

My vacuum incident

Posted on January 27, 2008
So yesterday I was vacuuming because we were having friends over, and I sort of started a fire. AND I broke a nail.Apparently I vacuumed a leaf from one of my plants, which caught fire in the roller. After I tried blowing it out a couple of times, it finally went out on its own...

Quote of the Day

Posted on January 24, 2008
From Millionaire Matchmaker:"I think that every girl who sleeps with a guy before a committed relationship has ruined it for the next girl, and you've created a society of passive-aggressive Peter Pan idiots". Patti Stanger.Awesome. Not that there's anything wrong with casual sex, as long as you both know what you're getting into and everyone's being honest with each other...

We're going to the Superbowl!!!

Posted on January 20, 2008
Patriots over San Diego 21-12!!18-0, baby!!! New England rocks. It didn't feel like the AFC Championship today, though. I mean, seriously. Not to rub it in, but they've been winning all along so it was kind of like today was just one more game they had to play...
